The Outsider: Bells 4/The 52 year storm.
Don’t know about you but I was up continually in the night checking that loveable mad-dog Kim Jong-un hadn’t pressed the wrong red button and sent nuclear war-heads buzzing all over the Pacific rim. Sure, Bells Beach would be one of the safer places on Earth; we know Kim is a sports fanatic and wouldn’t [...]

Booming surf out of the southern Ocean this morning with some lump and bump on it due to the proximity of an impending W’ly flow. How big? I thought 6-8ft. Maurice Cole said 4-6ft. Anyway you slice it there’s some bulk and volume in it as well as size. A bigger board definitely would help. [...]
The Outsider: Bells Day3. Just the facts Ma’am.
Stephanie Gilmore surfed four times today on a rising swell and offshore winds with a broken bone in her foot. Her surfing was sometimes brilliant, always stylish; highlighted for mine by long looping cutbacks with a strong rebound high in the corner. She made the other girls, and compared to Gilmore they are girls, look [...]

Delicate morning here with an offshore brushing some smooth lines. It’s an inconsistent 3ft so get ready for lulls. All the reefs look fully attended, as you’d expect on a sunny Easter Saturday. on wave model charts the leading edge of the next swell pulse looks to fill in during the afternoon. Might be worth [...]
The Outsider: Jesus, meet Allah.
Jesus, Meet Allah. “The news is bad: they won’t give peace a chance. That was just a dream some of us had” Joni Mitchell. California. You could tell this morning after the temperature plummeted overnight, and I can tell you I felt every lousy degree drop out on a hard concrete floor, that [...]

Clean lines on the reefs here this morning with cloud banks to the W and a morning offshore. Size looks in the 3ft range with good quality. Chilly with that colder southern air in the mix. Fun surf to be had. A pulse is expected during the morning.

Lovely little swell pulse yesterday in the hour or two leading into dark with 3ft sets reeling down the Torquay reefs and offshore winds. Cool change has come through overnight with W’ly winds which are tending WNW/NW during the early morning. Surf has wound back a notch into the 2ft+ range with very rare 3ft [...]
The Outsider: Bells 1. Offense/Defense.
Problems with Paypal, hunger, a late kick in swell. Mr Paul Speaker sees sense on the Bells conundrum. I had alot of stuff on my mind riding Pink Beauty along the ochre coloured cliff path to Bells this morning. Most of it came down to money, or the lack of it, a fine old problem [...]
