Byron Buoy has shown a nice kick up in wave period although sig wave heights are remaining stable. That kick is translating into some ruler edged lines from the SSE with sets in the 4ft+ range and offshore winds. You look at the photes and you get the picture. It’s not pumping, there are waits [...]

Cool wintry mornings continue under the regime of W’ly to SW’ly flow being generated by low pressure in the Tasman. This is also sending small clean refracted S swell our way with size in the 2-3ft range. Expect more size at exposed S swell magnets. Winds will stay light and from the SW through the [...]
Ships Log. May19, 2013.
Wintry conditions persist with chilly WSW winds that feel like they are coming off snow clad mountains and ruler edged swell from the S. It’s tiny 1ft or so at most spots but you will find extra size and juice at magnets. It’s a good day for everything. Get the grubs off the broccoli early [...]

Another perfect autumn, wintery feeling day with offshores and small clean surf. Surf has swung more S’ly in direction so you’ll find a bigger spread of wave sizes but it’s offering only small peelers at most spots. A kick through the afternoon is likely as swell from the Tasman low makes landfall. Sorry no photo.
Ships Log. May17,2013.
Glorious, glorious late autumn morning with a brisk westerly breeze and some super straight lines from the SE. Inconsistent sets in the 3ft range and once more it’s ruler edged. These perfect days have all been a tad small to really get excited about but this one look a touch more substantial. Certain spots will [...]
Ships Log. May16, 2013.
Another grey, cool morning with westerly winds and smooth surface conditions. Surf size hasn’t changed much from yesterday with inconsistent 2 footers and the odd bigger one for the patient. If you cracked the code yesterday and found a peel-off then hit replay. Swell is from the ESE and ruler edged. Winds are expected to [...]

There’s a proper synoptic westerly blowing and high cloud streaming in from a NW cloudband which is casting a wan yellow light over proceedings. In other words, it’s very deep autumn. Corduroy from a small clean ESE swell is stretched out to sea and is producing super buffed surf in the 2-3ft range. Sets are [...]
Ships Log. May14, 2013.
Gloomy overcast morning with clean surf from the SE/ESE in the 2-3ft range. A cold front and trough are passing through with a cloudband and offshore airflow. This should see winds remain light and from the western quadrant for most of the day. Combined with the swell which may kick a touch during the day [...]
Ships Log. May13, 2013.
It’s another cool, cloudy start to the morning with offshore breezes and surf from the SE. Size pulsed a notch yesterday afternoon as swell from a low lingering near New Zealand made landfall and this source is still with us this morning. Size is in the 3ft range or so with clean conditions. Amazing red [...]
